Little Grrrl Lost by Charles de Lint
I thought this would be a contemporary teen version of The Borrowers and, as such, was prepared to love it. But it is pretty uneven, better in the fantasy world of the punky and spunky 6" Little - Elizabeth - who is searching for her freedom, her family and her origins, but not so good in the real world of TJ, an unhappy 14 year old girl in whose bedroom Elizabeth turns up . The two girls develop a friendship, are separated, have adventures, grow up a bit and get back together. Might appeal to ages 11-13.

I am Rembrandt's Daughter by Lynn Cullen.
Narrated by Rembrandt's illegitimate daughter Cornelia. Since her half-brother Titus married and moved out, she is at the beck and call of her father. A coming of age story with mystery and romance, interwoven with details of life in 17th century Amsterdam. I liked it, having just returned from a week in Amsterdam, but historical fiction readers would also enjoy it.

Twilight and New Moon by stephanie Meyer. These books are the first 2 in a trilogy and they are hugely popular with teenage girls. They tell the story of Bella and her relationship with a vampire named Edward. He is a good vampire but there are bad vampires in the story and his job is to protect Bella from them. She desperately wants to become a vampire so that she can be with Edward forever but he is reluctant. He goes away in order to protect but she is devastated. Enter Jacob whose job is comfort Bella in Edward's absence. But Jacob turns out to be a werewolf. Predictable, implausible and utterly romantic. Perfect for the teen girl demographic but not of much interest to a middle-aged cynic like me!
